Brief Description

The wide-band tuneable pattern generator BPG 30G-TER provides a programmable ternary data signal consisting of positive and negative pulses and zeros. For the operation of the generator an external reference clock signal is required. It provides the time base for data rates between 300 Mhz and 15 Ghz.

The length of the user pattern is configurable from 16 digit up to 268.435.456 digit and is repeated periodically. Each digit can be set to a positive or negative pulse or to zero.

The pattern memory can be split in 2 or 4 parts to toggle synchronously between different waveforms. Two short user pattern with 16 digit and 128 digit length are programmable via the front panel.

The amplitude of the positive and negative pulses of the ternary data signal is independently adjustable between 0.1V  and 0.5 V. Complementary outputs for push-pull applications are provided.

At the front panel several trigger signals, e.g. a divided clock signal and the word frame trigger, are available.

All settings and patterns can be changed as well via an easy-to-use graphical user interface on your PC.

Output Signals

  1. Pulse pattern with independent amplitudes:

The amplitude of the positive and negative pulses of the ternary signal can be adjusted independently and for both ouput channels seperately. This means four amplitude voltages can be independently set and changed:

    • VData+ and VData- define the amplitude of the positive and negative pulses respectively of the 'Data' output signal
    • V/Data+ and V/Data- define the amplitude of the positive and negative pulses respectively of the '/Data' output signal
    The adjustment range for all four voltages is 0.1 V to 0.5 V (+/-10% 50 Ω) with a resolution of 1 mV.

Adjustable Amplitude of the Pattern Generator Outputs
    (200 ps/div, 300 mV/div)

  2. Complementary bipolar pulse pattern at 15 Ghz clock rate:

Complementary Outputs of the Pattern Generator: Pulse Pattern
    ( 100 ps/div, 300mV/div )

  3. Complementary bipolar eye diagram at 15 GHz clock rate:

Complementary Outputs of the Pattern Generator: Eye Diagram
    (20 ps/div, 300 mV/div)
